Liverpool’s airport was renamed in 2001 after the city’s most famous son. History
The airport opened at Speke in 1933, and its original 1930s terminal building still stands as a listed hotel. The current terminal and runway site opened progressively from 1966, and the John Lennon name and branding arrived with the new millennium.
